Elon Musk’s Successful Acquisition of Twitter – the Coup of the Century.

Elon Musk’s successful acquisition of Twitter is in my opinion the coup of the century.

Musk has captured in one bold stroke “the keys” to the free press; not just in America but in all democratic countries.

He has adhered to the teachings of Sun Tzu… (Sun Tzu 17 “Water shapes its flow according to the ground …” – YouTube) who counselled:  “All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.” ― (Sun Tzu, The Art of War)

The deal, which will see Musk will pay US$54.20 in cash per share, still requires shareholder and regulatory approval but is expected to close later this year.

At this strategic inflection point if the deal had not closed most of the 9+ percent of the company Musk acquired for less than $35 a share. As I write this article the stock is currently very close to the $54 US per share. EXIT PLAN B — if offer not accepted- To divest through anonymous sellers- a nice profit would be acquired from the takeover attempt. Win-win.

As a private company Musk will ‘prune the Rosebush’ (Rosebush Organizational Analogy | Terry Power’s Strategic Thinking Concepts (terrypowerstrategy.com)) — the Progressive, woke, left-wing suckers are about to be removed permitting the energy and resources saved to be focused on Musk’s new vision.

I expect that vision will include among other initiatives — longer tweets. Such an initiative would in effect create a new “giant’ transparent social media “newspaper/streaming TV” organization without the spin of ‘the gate keepers’ found in the legacy media. Indeed I anticipate like the recent demise of CNN plus a number of mergers and acquisitions to take place as this new industrial age demands repositions the way we deliver news.

Musk’s Twitter will be real time… Why wait for your newspapers to publish materials 24 and 48 hours later with their spin?

Regretfully in response to twitter’s unilateral actions under the old regime a number of start-ups have emerged in the past 6 to 8 months. I expect these will atrophy. There was a need to provide ‘a soapbox’ for those who had been silenced by the left-wing progressive gatekeepers. Indeed President of the United States was removed from the Twitter site. But Musk has can now right wrongs.

Trump told Fox News that he will formally join his own Truth Social start-up over the next seven days. He stated: “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump told Fox News. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth,”

Trump was an early adapter of the Twitter social media ‘tool’ to get his word out. Real time— no spin…  communicate with the electorate. One of the first to recognize the power of this form of communication. Recall Canadian Marshall McLuhan’s often quoted phrase ‘the medium is the message’—Trump understood this—not just the content but that the media itself needs to be mastered… He did!

I appreciate Trump wanting to stay the course. However I believe he would be wise to accept the opening that Musk is presenting as the November election looms closer. Again Sun Tzu advises as a ‘Principle of War ‘… the importance of Concentration of Force (The 10 Principles of War | Terry Power’s Strategic Thinking Concepts (terrypowerstrategy.com)) — don’t balkanize into a number of separate social media right wing Republican outlets…

Musk has potential to become the focal for all news. Indeed some may say he has saved American democracy in that democracy can only exist with a free press.  It has been troubling that American iconic newspapers were falling into the hands of progressive socialists that were silencing dissident thoughts.

Well played Elon!

  1. Hello Terrance,

I’m curious how well you think Elon has executed his Twitter takeover and implemented his vision successfully? Do you think that he still stands to make Twitter the focal point of all news?
