What is of the greatest importance in war is extraordinary speedone cannot afford to neglect opportunity

 The Battle.

It is not necessary to throw in the towel just because your global competitors have more and better technology. Speed and the correct application of the emerging technology you do have available can be a key success factors (insert link) to allow your SME to exploit emerging global opportunities before the more technically advanced competition.

Few know that in 1940 the French army, hiding behind the security of the Maginot line, had better tanks and in greater numbers than the Germans.  Yet the Germans won the battle. Why?

Because unlike the French that employed the tank by widely dispersing their armour in support of the foot soldier (and therefore could only proceeded only at the speed of the slowest foot soldier), the Germans exploited the new technology.

The French found themselves no match for the German blitzkrieg (Lightning war). The German infantry were motorized, thereby enabling the new technology (tanks) and to concentrate, outflank, and exploit their core competencies.

Comment

In this new industrial age there is only the quick and the dead.

Like water, the Germans flowed quickly around their obstacles (Maginot line). In a global ecosystem, it is helpful to think of your business as water. We will return to this notion frequently in this blog.

This blog introduces emerging technology and issues. Think reflectively on how the German experience and how you might be able to exploit the emerging technological advantages from the IoE. Can you find some Blue Ocean? (Link here please)
